Dr Syed Harun is an Associate Consultant Psychiatrist practicing at the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore.

He read MBBS at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, attained MRCPsych from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom and completed Psychiatry Residency under the National Healthcare Group.

He attained Specialist Accreditation as a Psychiatrist in 2019, and concurrently a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS) for Psychiatry.

He has academic interests in Forensic Psychiatry, Military Psychiatry, Healthcare Ethics, Neuropsychiatry and Community Mental Health.

He is currently pursuing a MSc Public Health at the London School of Health & Tropical Medicine.

He is active in community work and social services, and holds voluntary leadership appointments in statutory boards and committees across several government ministries, including the Ministry of Community, Culture & Youth (MCCY), Ministry of Communications & Information (MCI) and Ministry of Social & Family Development (MSF).

He is also Honorary Secretary of the Muslim Healthcare Professionals’ Association.

He enjoys mentoring and working with youth and medical students in his free time.

In 2019, he was nominated for the Singapore Youth Award, the nation state’s highest accolade for under 35s and was one of fifteen finalists for the award.

He received a Special Commendation for the Most Inspiring Story and continues to be invited for speaking engagements under the National Youth Council.

In 2019, he was also named as National Council of Social Services 40-under-40, a youth leadership platform for promising leaders in the Social Services sector, and more recently in Aug 2020, he was appointed as a member of the 16th National Youth Council.
