LBKM has come a long way since its inception, evolving from a small but relentless bursary-disbursing organization into a renowned bursary institution and a pillar of the Malay and Muslim community.
The genesis of this institution may be traced to the vision of one man, Mr Syed Ali Redha Alsagoff. LBKM has continued to receive overwhelming support from the Malay/Muslim community, with more than 70 local Malay and Muslim organizations enlisting as members, LBKM has been and will continue to be a key player in the community by providing much-needed financial assistance to students, to enable them to pursue their dreams and ambition.
As the years fly by, we continue to strive to remain a relevant beacon of light in the community without compromising on the building blocks and the virtues of LBKM our founding fathers envisioned.

22 Aug 1965 | LBKM was officially launched at a conference held at the Victoria Memorial Hall. |
17 Feb 1966 | Officially registered under the Organizations Act, as an Institution of Public Character. Syed Ali Redha Alsagoff became the founder President. The inaugural bursary award with a total value $5,100 was given to 18 students. |
1970 | Became a full member of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). |
1982 | Became an Institutional Member of Yayasan Mendaki. |
1983 | Bursary disbursement passed the $100,000 mark. Bursaries totalling $110,050 awarded to 200 recipients. |
1987 | Bursary disbursement passed the $200,000 mark. Bursaries worth $290,000 awarded to 495 students. |

1995 | A Gala Dinner to commemorate LBKM’s 30th anniversary was held. Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong graced the occasion as the Guest-of-Honour. A new logo and an official song were launched. Syed Ali Redha Alsagoff was honoured with the Jasa Gemilang LBKM or LBKM Eminent Service award. |

2002 | Bursary disbursements exceeded $500,000 and awarded to 818 students. |
2004 | Collaborated with the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP) to map out a new programme called Maths Gym to instil interest and love for Mathematics in children. |

2011 | Publication of Obor Ummah – Jejak Tokoh Agama Islam di Singapura, a result of the research project with PERGAS on prominent Singapore Islamic missionaries. |
May 2012 | Quantum of all bursaries raised by 11-50% to be in line with the increased costs of education. |

Mr Suhaimi is the CEO of SSAGroup, a group of companies established in 1986, providing professional services in management consulting, training, governance audit and estate planning.
Through his leadership, his main company, SSA Academy Pte Ltd (formerly known as SSA Consulting Group) has consistently been ranked for the last 7 years as one of the top 1000 SMEs in Singapore by DP Information.
The company also received the Dun & Bradstreet Business Eminence Award in 2017.
Suhaimi is also active in community service.
His current involvement includes as President of Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (LBKM) and Board Member/Chairman of Audit Committee, SG Enable.
His past community involvement includes as a Board member of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Charity Council, Public Transport Council, Institute of Management Consultants, Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Yayasan Mendaki.
For his active involvement in the non-profits sector, he received the following accolades:
- SME Partner Award (2001), from the then Productivity & Standards Board (now Spring Singapore), for his “outstanding contributions to the development of small and medium enterprises in Singapore”
- Friend of MCYS Award (2012), from the then Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), for his active involvement in the Charity Council since its inception, and in the review and fine-tuning of the Code of Governance for Charities & IPCs.

Dr Syed Harun is a Consultant Psychiatrist & Medical Director at The Starfish Clinic of Psychiatry & Mental Wellness.
He read MBBS at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, attained MRCPsych from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom and completed Psychiatry Residency under the National Healthcare Group.
He attained Specialist Accreditation as a Psychiatrist in 2019, and concurrently a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS) for Psychiatry.
He has academic interests in Forensic Psychiatry, Military Psychiatry, Healthcare Ethics, Neuropsychiatry and Community Mental Health.
He is active in community work and social services, and holds voluntary leadership appointments in statutory boards and committees across several government ministries, including the Ministry of Community, Culture & Youth (MCCY), Ministry of Communications & Information (MCI) and Ministry of Social & Family Development (MSF).
He is also Honorary Secretary of the Muslim Healthcare Professionals’ Association.
He enjoys mentoring and working with youth and medical students in his free time.
In 2019, he was nominated for the Singapore Youth Award, the nation state’s highest accolade for under 35s and was one of fifteen finalists for the award.
He received a Special Commendation for the Most Inspiring Story and continues to be invited for speaking engagements under the National Youth Council.
In 2019, he was also named as National Council of Social Services 40-under-40, a youth leadership platform for promising leaders in the Social Services sector, and more recently in Aug 2020, he was appointed as a member of the 16th National Youth Council.

Haireez is a dispute resolution specialist with extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, arbitration and mediation matters.
He is one of the youngest to be accredited by the Singapore Academy of Law for his expertise in a broad range of Maritime & Shipping practice areas and graduated as the best student in shipping law in National University of Singapore (“NUS”).
He is also presently the Deputy Subject Co-Ordinatory for Admiralty Practice with the Singapore Institute of Legal Education where he imparts his knowledge and experience to aspiring practitioners as well as a tutor for advocacy to law undergraduates in NUS.
Haireez’s active community involvement from a relatively young age is rooted to his overarching belief regarding the importance of volunteering to bridge the social and economic gaps in the community and to strengthen the social fabric for a better future for us all.
That remains his guiding principle to-date and his primary motivation to continue in supporting the cause that LBKM advances.

Mr Halil was one of LBKM’s bursary recipients during his tertiary education. To show his gratitude and “pay it forward” to the community, he then embarked as a LBKM youth volunteer and became an ardent fundraiser and participated in many LBKM events leading him to be invited into the Executive Council in 1994.
With LBKM, he was appointed to be part of Yayasan Mendaki Board of Directors, serving in the Audit Committee for 5 years.
Mr Halil’s involvement within the Malay Muslim community extends as a member of various Mosque Management Board (MMB) in various positions.
His leadership is evident within the grassroots organizations of the Marymount and Bishan area. He is currently holding an appointment of Chairman, representing both Malay Activity Executive Committee (MAEC) Marymount and MAEC Thomson. Under his leadership, he is able to bridge and serve as the “last-mile delivery” to the residents especially the needy target group. He was also appointed a member of the newly formed M3@Toa Payoh in May 2021.
Mr Halil has been working with SPH for 17 years.
He is passionate about business, sales and people accounting. He believes that success is found in building relationships and achieving the goals of both the organisation as well as the client.

Abdullah Arief Ali is a Financial Services Manager at Prudential Assurance Company. He has 15 years of experience in the financial markets, having worked for company such as Citco Fund services as an investor relation Specialist.
In his current role in prudential, he managed a team and mentor young agents that are new to the industry. He partners with lawyers and accountants to help plan for business owner succession and also help individuals with their investment portfolios.
He attained Prudential Service Mark in 2017-2019, a Million-Dollar Round Table in 2020-2023, a Certified Enneagram Practitioner, and also a Certified Practitioner of NLP.
He is also active in community service. His current involvement includes the Honorary Treasurer of LBKM and TAA exco.
His past community involvement includes being Vice President for Literacy Initiative For Equity, Tabung Amal Aidilfitri Finance Committee, AMP Student Mentor, LBKM Youth and MENDAKI Mentoring.

Mr Djuanda is a retired banker after having served 30 years as a Client Executive at Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken Singapore Branch.
He is now focusing on his multi-generational family. He loves making bread and having great fun learning to make traditional Malay desserts and being a sous chef to his wife.

Mr Hamzah Abdul Mutalib was one of the Founding Members and the President of Casa Raudha Women Home from 2008 to 2018. He was also the Past Chairman of Casa Raudha Ltd from 2017 to 2021.
He is still serving in several non-profits organizations as Chairman, Board of Directors, and Executive Council member, setting policy, directions and strengthening the organization’s capacity, capability, and sustainability.
He believes that an organization should stay valid and relevant to the community’s needs; hence, he often seeks partnerships to identify service gaps at the organization level or society to address the need to stop any form of intergenerational social disadvantage.
His vast experience in working with the underprivileged both locally and internationally has shaped his perspective that any form of charity/contribution should be based on the spirit of humanity.
