The launch of the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday Memorial Scholarship Fund Board, or LBKM as it is better known, was a historic occasion for the Malay/Muslim community in Singapore.
LBKM was formed in 1965 with the concerted determination and commitment of the leaders of about 70 Malay/Muslim organisations who felt the need to have an organisation that can cater to the financial needs of our needy students.
Since our establishment in 1965, our main focus has been to provide financial assistance in the form of bursaries to needy students. Our mantra is “no one should be deprived of furthering one’s education because of financial difficulty.”
We are very thankful for the continuing support and generosity of our donors and sponsors who have contributed generously to our bursary funds. With more funds at our disposal, more students can be helped.
For the past 47 years, we have given more than 20,000 bursaries to students from primary to postgraduate level totalling $15 million. In the process, we have touched the lives of at least 10,000 families.
I would like to appeal to our bursary recipients and students in general, to work hard, utilise your bursaries judiciously and attain your results with excellent grades that would make your parents, family and the community proud. And upon study completion, I hope you will not forget all those who have helped you realise your ambitions. Give back to society, contribute to LBKM or other charities, and help others realize their educational potential as well.
